Danny Farquhar, Former Toronto Blue Jay, current Seattle Mariners AAA

1. Could you tell us your story on dropping down?

I was a freshman in high school at archbishop McCarthy in Davie, fl and I was on varsity bc I was a good hitter and outfielder, but was pitching wasn't up to par to play on varsity. One day a junior who was trying just to stay on jv was throwing sidearm and he was struggling to throw strikes. I told the pitching coach that I could do that. And the rest is history.

2. What are some of the advantages you had from your arm angle?

It creates movement that may not be there without the angle, but u also have to make sure the run is mostly down bc side movement doesn't work anymore.

3. If you didn't drop down, do you think you would have had the same success?

As proud as I am of my pitching I would like to think yes but I know in my heart of hearts that I wouldn't.

4. What would you tell someone debating on changing their arm angle?

Sometimes a change is needed if you are doing your best and things aren't working out. Why not give it a shot but if you do make the change you have to be whole hearted into the change.

5. Are there any mechanical tips that you'd give to someone throwing sidearm/submarine?

Don't over think it.

6. What pitches did you throw?

Fastball, slider, change up

7. How did you pitch to lefties/righties?

Depends on the swing of the hitter, the spot in the order, the situation of the game. There is not a set way to pitch.

8. Lastly what was your favorite part about pitching from down there?

Making a hitter walk back to the dugout confused.
